South Section Line Intersection Improvements

 About the Project

The Delaware County Engineer has initiated a project to improve the safety and mobility at this location. Delaware County has received federal funds to assist in making improvements to these intersections to alleviate the long backups and improve the safety.

 Purpose

The purpose of this project is to improve the capacity and traffic control at the Home Road (CR 124) intersections with Riverside Drive (SR 257) and S. Section Line Road. Due to the current and projected operational failures (LOS F) at the intersections, there is a need to restore and maintain acceptable level of service (LOS) through the design year.

The intersections of Home Road & State Route 257 and Home & Section Line Road have a history of traffic accidents and are congested for several hours each day. About 20,706 vehicles pass through these two intersections each day.

For 2035, about 54,160 cars a day are estimated to pass through the Home Road intersections with Riverside Drive and S. Section Line Road. That is 23,080 at the Riverside intersection and 31,080 at the S. Section Line Intersection.

 Preferred Alternative

After careful study and consideration of the public comments received by both the public meeting as well as this website, the Delaware County Engineers Office (DCEO) in conjunction with The Ohio Department of Transportation has selected alternative R-3 as the preferred alternative effective 12-9-08.

 Detailed Design

The detailed design phase is on-going and will be completed in 2011. Right of way negotiation and acquisition will beging in 2010. The project is currently scheduled for contruction in 2014, but the Deleware County Engineer's Office is looking for opportunities to advance the construciton date.
